The Homeoblock™ is a unique removable orthopedic/orthodontic dental appliance which provides palatal expansion and jaw development for the maxilla and the mandible in so called “non-growing” adult patients. “ The Homeoblock device is thought to evoke dentofacial development that is genetically encoded for each individual”.

The appliance is worn by the patient, only in the nighttime. The result is a physiologic response that carries through the daytime until the appliance is worn again the following evening. It is in effect a signaling device. We currently understand the phenomenon of signal transduction (a sequence of biochemical reactions carried out by enzymes) which is the body’s ability to transmit a signal from outside the cell through the cell membrane into the cell. Using signal transduction it is possible to communicate directly to the genome in the cell nucleus which controls the construction and operation of the human body.

One theory is that the Homeoblock appliance, which is a signaling appliance, uses this mechanism to turn on redundant genes for craniofacial development resulting in jaw development in so called non–growing adults. Practically speaking the HB appliance, arrests and reverses the premature aging of the face increases the volume of the pharyngeal airway and makes room for crowded teeth in the maxilla and the mandible.
