DIGITAL CEPHALOMETRIC IMAGE REQUIREMENTS:
Please read the following information in order for us
to provide an accurate ceph tracing.
More and more practitioners are switching from traditional film x-rays to full
digital imaging. While digital imaging offers several advantages, some issues
have come up with regards to performing a cephalometric tracing and analysis
derived from a digital cephalometric image.
If a digital cephalometric image is to be submitted for evaluation, you will
need to verify if a reference scale is located within the image (see example
below). This reference scale is required so the software we use can be properly
calibrated in order for us to provide an accurate ceph tracing.
Digital Ceph Image – Most digital systems have a millimeter scale within
the Nasion rest. Verify if this is indeed the case with your particular
system before sending your ceph image. If required, place a (see below) or a
piece of metal of a specific length (in millimeters) at the patient’s
mid-Sagittal plane (head-holder/nasion-rest area) when the x-ray is
taken. DO NOT PLACE the correctional scale on the cassette!
Scanned Cephalometric Film – If you are capturing your cephalometric
film utilizing a scanner with a Transparency Unit (i.e. Epson Expression 1680),
place a Calibration Ruler* or a semi-transparent object of a specific length
(in millimeters), such as a small piece of paper, on the scanner when you scan
the cephalometric film.
*NOTE: We can send you a free Calibration Ruler (for Scanning purposes
only). Please call or email us at
